A CHARITY PROJECT FOR TAIWAN'S INDIGENOUS CHILDREN
You are kindly invited to the
TAIWAN HAPPENING
an Art Event
Organised by Art Forum Gallery Antwerp
At ABS Art Hotel, Reyndersstraat 30, Antwerp
Sunday, 2nd October 2022, 3PM to 7PM
Entrance, in support of the charity project: 10€
BACKGROUND
Few people in Europe are aware that there are aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. Even fewer know that their language is the origin of the Austronesian language group that includes Malay, Maori and Malagasy. Through decades of discrimination and neglect, the Formosan language is in danger of disappearing.
CHARITY ART EVENT
Artist Yao-Tang Huang has previously organized a charity art project in Alishan, Taiwan, to raise the awareness of the indigenous heritage and to support Taiwan's indigenous children (see Taiwan-Paint a Future).
This charity event will be the continuation of the Alishan project, to preserve the Tsou heritage and improve the future of the Tsou children.
We have seen the success of the tribal Saviki classroom in learning the language and improving their educational standards. Four children who benefitted from the project's contribution are now going to universities.
Some of the Saviki children are very interested in art and music, but they can not find teachers.
So our aim is to raise a fund to send international artists to organize art workshops in Alishan for the children.
A concert by Taiwanese singer Yabong Bulong (Yu-Cheng Lu) is supported by donations and sales of art works.
With this event, we also hope to introduce Taiwanese culture and history and the connection of their indigenous people with Europe to a wider public in Belgium/Europe.
